AUXILIARY ELECTION ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA -003/07

1. To summarize and clarify eligibility criteria for election to Auxiliary office, review and recap of those criteria have been completed by Auxiliary National Leadership and the Coast Guard Office of Auxiliary (CG-3PCX).

These criteria reflect changes to requirements that have arisen since issuance of the Auxiliary Manual (COMDTINST M16790.1F) including changes brought on by establishment of the Personnel Security Investigation (PSI) program, new training requirements, and changes adopted by National Board action.

2. These criteria are effective now and are applicable for the coming election season. They will constitute the "Eligibility to Assume Office" sections for each elected office listed in the next update to Appendix D of the Auxiliary Manual (COMDTINST M16790.1F).

3. General provisions of section 4.F. of the Auxiliary Manual (COMDTINST M16790.1F) pertaining to Auxiliary elections still apply. The Director of Auxiliary may waive pre-requisites and eligibility requirements, as appropriate and consistent with regional needs, as may the Chief Director for National-level elections. However, the following two waiver guidelines are applicable only for elections to be held in 2007:

a. Due to the considerable amount of time that has passed since substantial update of the Elected Leader's Course (ELC) and the cancellation of the Auxiliary Administration (AUXMIN) Specialty Course, these courses will no longer be recognized as options for meeting election eligibility criteria. The Administrative Procedures Course (APC) will be the only acceptable course to meet this aspect of election eligibility criteria. However, for elections to be held in 2007, and 2007 only, waiver may be granted to accept ELC or AUXMIN.

b. By 2008, specific Incident Command System (ICS)-related training courses effectively become mandates for Auxiliarists involved in certain programs and activities as well as for those who serve in certain elected offices. Therefore, for elections to be held in 2007, and 2007 only, waivers may be granted to allow successful completion of specified ICS-related courses by the date of assuming office in lieu of successful completion by the date of nomination.
